This workshop will help medical interpreters to gain familiarity and comfort with ethical issues that arise in their work. It will facilitate a professional discussion on emerging best practices in modern medical ethics. Participants will also have the opportunity to flesh-out these concepts during case study analysis.
This workshop will highlight the history of medical ethics and modern, medical ethical practices. The concepts of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice will be discussed to anchor participant’s approach to in-class case studies and to guide their professional practice going forward. Strategies on how to navigate complex ethical situations will be discussed.
