Interp. WS: Roles, Ethics and Protocol for Aspiring Legal Interpreters
This two-day seminar will provide an overview of the legal system for practicing and potential court interpreters. Topics will include discussion of the roles of court interpreters, positioning of court interpreters, courtroom personnel, pre‑requisite knowledge and skills for a legal interpreter.
During this seminar participants will also learn about working in Deaf/hearing interpreter teams, how the court code of conduct works in conjunction or in opposition with the RID CPC, and the various roles and protocols for court interpreters.
Finally, participants will leave the workshop with a better understanding of the nuances of courtroom interpreting, a personal list of next steps for working in the legal interpreting realm, and a strong sense of the importance of continuing to enhance their skills through on-going professional development.
