SUMMARY:Interp. WS: CYC: Change Your Energy\, Change Your Life
DESCRIPTION:Workshop/Course Description: \nAs interpreters we want to deliver the message ethically and neutrally. This\ncourse teaches us how our energy affects the environment; positive or negative. And teaches techniques to\navoid absorbing negative energy in our environments and how positive energy maintains our neutrality. This\nworkshop is an enlightening and inspiring ride that reveals 10 rules for approaching life and work drawing\ninspiration from “The Energy Bus.” No one goes through life without facing ethical challenges. The\noutcome is determined by our energy – positive or negative. Using positive\, forward energy we can impact\nthe experience for all consumers (deaf\, interpreter\, hearing). Participants will learn practical techniques\nabout how their energy affects environments and outcomes. This transformative workshop is designed to\nequip students with the tools and mindset needed for long-term success. You will be guided through\ninteractive exercises with expert mentoring. \nEducational Objectives: \n1. Develop a deeper understanding of the impact of mindset and energy. \n2. Acquire practical tools and strategies inspired by “The Energy Bus” to objectively identify and filter energy. \n3. Explore ethical dilemmas in a supportive community where participants can exchange insights\, shared experiences\, and collectively brainstorm solutions to common\nchallenges. \n4. Empower community members to implement sustainable practices that promote longevity\, fulfillment\, and access. \nKnowledge Level: Little/none \n0.65 PS RID CEUs  (**Ethics) \n**This workshop starts on 9/1/24 and is open until 9/1/25 for credit. SUMMARY:Interp. WS: Is It Really My Job? And other Ethical Questions
DESCRIPTION:Workshop/Course Description:\nThe definition of our job can be clear if we only look at the linguistics role that we serve.\nHowever\, without codes of conduct\, professionalism\, specific roles within context\, soft skills\,\nproblem solving\, diffusionary tactics\, and the ability to explain our job to others… our real and\ncomplete job ends up a little hollow. In this workshop we will explore the reasons why and\nresources to improve how we ethically determine what is ACTUALLY the full view of our\nprofession.\nWith a mix of lecture\, group discussion\, and small group case studies\, participants will leave\nfeeling empowered to elevate their day-to-day work. \nEducational Objectives\n• Review laws and standard practices that affect an interpreter’s daily decisions outside of\nthe linguistic interpreting process.\n• Learn and discuss soft skills that would ease many everyday work situations\n• Discuss how to avoid hindering the goals of our work environments\n• Learn how to ethically work with colleagues and agencies.\n• Discuss real case studies and how we can ethically use what we’ve learned to address\npossible approaches. \n*The goal of the workshop is to look at difficult case studies in the last third of the workshop. Attendees\nwill use the laws reviewed\, CPC standard practices\, and an approach to soft skills/interpersonal skills to\nethically discuss all possible avenues for an interpreter to take\, how that will affect all parties involved\,\nand all future interpreters entering into that situation. \nKnowledge Level: Some \n0.3  RID PS CEUs  (**Ethics credit)
