DESCRIPTION:(Part of the Terp Training Series with \nPA’s Office of Developmental Programs)\nAugust 12\, 2025\n11:30 am – 1:00 pm\nVirtual Event (Zoom)\nPresented in American Sign Language\nTo register\, visit\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/Nf5KADeyRAmLFnc-6edIEA\nInterpreting for folks with intellectual and developmental disabilities requires a variety of specialized skills. Understanding the varying perspectives both within and outside of the community is essential to doing your best interpreting work. \nThis session will take a deeper dive into the various tools that interpreters can employ when interpreting for people who have language fluency issues or idiosyncratic language that the interpreter may not be familiar with. The session will incorporate both didactic elements\, as well as large and small group discussions. There will also be “hands up” practice opportunities. \nAttendees should be prepared to be on camera and participate in discussions. \nThis training is appropriate for ASL-English interpreters. .15 PS CEUs provided through Pennsylvania Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Participants should have some prior content knowledge to attend. \nAt the completion of this training\, the participant will be able to: \n\nDefine “high context language”\,\nCompare and contrast first person\, third person\, narrative\, and descriptive interpreting approaches\,\nDescribe the Collaborative Interpreting Model\, and\nDescribe at least 3 tools an interpreter can use to augment their work.\n\nAbout the presenter: Lori Milcic is a nationally certified ASL-English interpreter with a specialist certification in mental health interpreting (QMHI).
